I have a dual passion: Writing and teaching/mentorship. For more than a decade, I have taught multimedia journalism to undergraduate students at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee as a full-time instructor. I was previously columnist for the Waukesha Freeman daily newspaper, On Milwaukee.com, and El Conquistador Latino newspaper. My freelance journalism has appeared in many state publications. Our students learn writing and reporting principles for print/online and broadcast media, as well as about new technologies (audio, video editing, SEO, CAR, GIS, etc) and social media. I am a Heavy.com breaking news contributor.
I come from a newspaper family and spent 10 years as an award-winning reporter for Wisconsin’s largest newspaper, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. I’ve also worked in broadcast, online, magazine, social media, aggregation, and opinion media formats. I have served as the Internship and Scholarship coordinator for the Journalism, Advertising, and Media Studies Department at UW-Milwaukee.
